This IICRC Odor Control Technician (OCT) course covers olfaction and odor, odor sources, detection process, theory of odor control, equipment, chemical options and applications. The student will learn how to address odors caused from biological sources such as decomposition, urine contamination, and mold, combustion sources such as fire and smoke damage, and chemical sources such as fuel oil spills or volatile organic chemicals.
Topics to be Covered Include:
- Odor sources, detection process, and theory of odor control
- Chemical options and applications
- Sanitize, disinfect, enzyme, and sealants
- Vapor diffusion technology
- Antimocrobials, 'pairing agents', and deodorizers and how to use them
Biological Sources:
- Decomposition
- Urine Contamination
- Mold
Combustion Sources:
- Fuel Oil Spills
- Volatile Organic Chemicals
Chemical Sources:
- Efficient Wand Strokes
- Labor Saving Tricks
- Grooming
IICRC Exam Fees: $80.00 for each exam. Retests are $80.00 per exam. These fees are in addition to the registration fee and are paid directly to the IICRC online prior to course start date. Please use this link to register for the exam: https://iicrc.org/livestreamexamregistration
Continuing Education: The IICRC continuing education program seeks to encourage registrants to actively participate in their industry through conventions, workshops and specialized training with continuing education and by sharing knowledge with others in the industry. IICRC-certified cleaning and restoration technicians face many changes in their field and require 14.0 CE credit hours every four years.
Please Note: Failure to meet continuing education credit requirements will result in suspension of that particular status until the requirement is met and all current course requirements are met.

I attended the OCT course through Horizon Educational Seminars and Sandy was the instructor. The manual was very well put together and was easy to follow. Sandy was extremely knowledgeable and presented the information in a way that kept you engaged and wanting to learn more. She had the entire class engaged by prompting open discussion from the students and sprinkling in some jokes to liven the room. I have taken many IICRC courses and would say that Sandy was definitely one of the better instructors that I had. Thanks Sandy and the rest of the Horizon team for a well put together course.
