Why Should You Take This OSHA 10-Hour Maritime Industry Course?
The Occupational Safety and Health Act was enacted to provide on-the-job safety and health conditions for American employees. The Act established the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and assigned it a general duty to ensure that employers keep their workplaces free from hazards likely to cause death or serious harm to employees. The Act also gave the Secretary of Labor the authority to impose more specific duties or standards to certain high-risk industries by adopting additional standards if necessary.
This OSHA Outreach Training Program for the Maritime Industry provides training for workers and employers on the recognition, avoidance, abatement, and prevention of safety and health hazards in workplaces in the maritime industry. The program also provides information regarding workers' rights, employer responsibilities, and how to file a complaint. The 10-hour class is intended for entry level workers, while the 30-hour class is more appropriate for supervisors or workers with some safety responsibility.
Through this training, OSHA helps to ensure that workers are more knowledgeable about workplace hazards and their rights, and contribute to our nation's productivity. This course covers practices of identifying, reducing, eliminating and reporting on-site hazards. It also teaches safety awareness and assists workers in recognizing and reducing risks in the workplace.
This course is intended to provide entry level maritime industry worker awareness on recognizing and preventing hazards on a work site. The training covers a variety of safety and health hazards which a worker may encounter on the job. OSHA recommends this training as an orientation to occupational health and safety. Workers must receive additional training on hazards specific to their work. Training should emphasize hazard identification, avoidance, control, and prevention.

Online OSHA 10 via zoom was convenient to complete the required training. Time Zone changes based on where the presenter was vs the students made timing and schedule some what awkward but the class was well run with breaks and the instructor was knowledgeable and kept the class room on point and professional. Let me start by saying that Patricia is an asset to your company. I am a Sr Systems Engineer with 35 years experience and have taken alot of certification classes and exams over my career. Not only was she well versed in what she was teaching, she kept the class engaged by having us participate ensuring that we did not get sleepy during the hours of sitting there. She also held everyone in the class to the same standard of the written rules and those that violated those rules were quickly informed they needed to correct the problem. I found that worked well and kept the disruptions to a minimum. Also, those who needed special considerations she helped. I had a moment were i lagged and was not able to hear for 20 seconds or so and missed some important information . After class she called me and made sure I was able to get the information I missed. I really enjoyed her teaching style and humor. Thank you again Patricia, I would recommend your classes to anyone that needs them in the future. Dayton M.

Patricia was the instructor, and I was an on-line participant from PA for the training. Patricia let everyone on the class know the rules and parameters for the class. She was fair with everyone and was very good at removing distractions and online participants that were not following the rules. As for the class materials, Patricia maintained the schedule and presented all topics very clearly and in a timely manner. The topics meshed well with other topics and in an orderly fashion. Topics and discussions were presented in a way that kept the class engaged. Overall, Patricia did a great job with everything. I believe it is better to have a person leading the class than just watching PowerPoint presentations with computer voices. Her voice during the presentation showed confidence and enthusiasm for the topics which made items easier to understand and to remember. I had a very good experience with this on-line class.
