Why Should You Take This Lead Risk Assessor Refresher Course?

Maintain your accreditation as a Lead Risk Assessor by attending this EPA or state approved refresher course. Federal regulations require refresher training every three years. Proof of prior completion of EPA-approved Lead Inspector and Lead Risk Assessor training or a current state license must be provided.

A Risk Assessor can perform all of the duties that a Inspector can, including work that falls under the EPA RRP Rule and HUD's Lead-Safe Housing rule. In addition, a Risk Assessor is responsible for identifying all lead-based paint hazards and making recommendations for their treatment, including maintenance and monitoring schedules.

EPA requires that an individual wishing to be certified as a Risk Assessor must first successfully complete the Inspector class, and meet education and experience requirements.

For EPA-Controlled States (NY, SC, FL, MT, SD, WY, ID, NV, AZ, NM, AK):  If you are applying for re-certification, your application should be submitted well before your certification
expires in order to allow time for processing. You do not need to take the 3rd-party certification exam again to be recertified.

Please be advised, refresher training in an EPA-controlled state (listed above) for lead abatement disciplines DOES NOT automatically certify you to work in NON-EPA Controlled States (see below)

For the 39 states controlling their own Lead Abatement Program, please note:  Your state may have detailed education, experience and application processing requirements to qualify for recertification in the Lead field. Students are responsible to verify these requirements prior to registering for a refresher course. There are numerous reciprocity agreements with EPA and other states with authorized lead-based paint programs. Your state may accept training for certification programs from those training providers accredited by EPA or other state authorized programs. Because reciprocity agreements are subject to change, it is strongly recommended that you contact your state's accrediting body before taking training from an outside source.
