This is a blended-learning course with segments online and in-person. Within 1 business day of registering, participants will receive an email invitation to complete the online lecture portion of this course. The 2-hour in-person session will be conducted at the training site and on the date and time listed in your registration, to complete the required hands-on and final exam for the course.
- You must complete the online portion of the class before your scheduled in-person training session. A temporary certificate will be issued to you after passing the online course - bring this with you to demonstrate you have completed the online training. Make sure to set aside time to complete the online portion prior to your class date!
- NO REFUNDS will be permitted after receiving access to the online course.
- You must bring your own face mask and wear it during class
- Your body temperature will be taken. Anyone who demonstrates they have a fever will be denied admittance.
- The start time for the class is prompt! If you are one minute late you will be denied admittance.
- You are required to pass the final examination in-person before your final certification is issued to you.
Again, students must complete the online portion of the class prior to the in-person session! Rescheduling the in-person session is not permitted without additional fees, so make sure to finish the online portion in time!
- Complete the Online Lectures - this
will take approximately 6 hours to complete and does not need to be completed in one sitting. Complete the final online assessment with at least an 80% passing grade. Print the Certificate of Completion to bring with you for part 2. - Complete the In-person Hands On Activities and Final Certification Exam at our training facility.
NOTE: You must complete the online portion of the course before your scheduled Hands On Activities and Certification Exam date. Students must bring valid photo ID and proof of completion of the online portion of the course with them to the in-person exam.
Your username and password to access the online training program will be sent within 1 business day of registration. After you are enrolled, you will have access to the online portion of the course until the date of the in-person session. The online course must be completed prior to your scheduled in-person date.
More about the RRP Rule:
Effective April 22, 2010, anyone who performs renovations, repairs, or painting in pre-1978 housing or child-occupied facilities must comply with the Lead RRP Rule. Individuals and firms that are not certified could face fines of up to $41,056 per day.
- More than 6 square feet of interior painted surface AND/OR
- More than 20 square feet of exterior painted surface
There are 3 steps to be sure you are in compliance:
- Register and successfully complete the Lead Renovator certification course.
- Submit an application to EPA or EPA-Authorized state on behalf of your company (even if you're a sole proprietor).
- Receive your certificate from class and your firm certificate, finalize any additional paperwork required by your state, and you are ready to get to work!
This course is provided by an accredited trainer who is approved by the EPA and/or EPA-Authorized lead program in compliance with all regulations in the state in which the course is being held. It will satisfy the 8-hour training requirement for individuals to attain certification in Lead Paint Safety for Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP). Individuals who attend the course, participate fully in the hands-on activities, and pass the certification exam will receive a Certified Renovator certificate.
Firm Certification
Firms, including sole-proprietors, landlords, etc. must submit an application stating that they will be utilizing a Certified Renovator to perform lead-safe work. Your training provider will discuss all registration requirements during class, and will provide the necessary forms when applicable.
To perform RRP work in an EPA-Authorized State (AL, DE, GA, IA, KS, MA, MS, NC, OK, OR, RI, UT, WA or WI): Firm registration must be processed directly with the applicable state lead program(s).
To work in all other states: Firm registration must be processed with the EPA via an online application. The EPA Lead-Safe Firm fee is $300, and it is valid for 5 years.
