Colorado Lead Abatement Certification

Company Registration

In addition to having the proper training certifications for all employees, any company or Sole Proprietor offering to perform lead abatement work must be a Colorado certified Lead Firm. A $600.00 fee is required to register/renew - view application and requirements.

Steps to Become a Lead Abatement Worker:

  1. Colorado Lead Abatement Workers perform abatement activities under the direction of a certified abatement supervisor.

  2. There are no prerequisites required for Colorado Lead Abatement Workers.

  3. Attend Lead Abatement Worker Initial training. If you are already certified and need to renew, attend a Lead Abatement Worker Refresher course.

  4. Apply to the CDPHE (Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment) for your Lead Abatement Worker certification by sending the application to the below address. There are different fees associated with each initial certification type: a $180.00 for 1 year; $360.00 for 2 years; and $540.00 for 3 years. For each refresher certification type, the fees are as follows: $180.00 for 1 year; $360.00 for 2 years; and $540.00 for 3 years.

Steps to Become a Lead Abatement Supervisor:

  1. Colorado Lead Abatement Supervisors perform supervision of abatement projects, preparation of occupant protection plans, abatement reports

  2. You must meet at least ONE of the follow prerequisites:
    1. One year of experience as a certified lead-based paint abatement worker; OR
    2. At least 2 years of experience in a related field (e.g., lead, asbestos, or environmental remediation work) or in the building trades.
  3. Attend Lead Abatement Supervisor Initial training. If you are already certified and need to renew, attend a Lead Abatement Supervisor Refresher course.

  4. Apply to the CDPHE (Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment) for your Lead Abatement Supervisor certification by sending the application to the below address. There are different fees associated with each initial certification type: a $230.00 for 1 year; $410.00 for 2 years; and $590.00 for 3 years. For each refresher certification type, the fees are as follows: $180.00 for 1 year; $360.00 for 2 years; and $540.00 for 3 years.

  5. After the state reviews your application, you will receive a Test Letter which allows you to register for the Lead Certification Exam: To schedule an exam, please view the list of dates and locations.
