How to Get Your Lead Abatement License in Connecticut

Below we will review the steps on how to become certified to properly remove lead in the state of Connecticut.

Connecticut Lead Abatement Certification

Company Registration

In addition to having the proper training certifications for all employees (see below for more information), any company or sole proprietor offering to perform lead hazard abatement in Connecticut must be registered within the state as a Lead Abatement Contractor. A $625.00 fee is required to register - view application and requirements.

Steps to Become a Lead Abatement Supervisor:

  1. The Connecticut Lead Abatement Supervisor oversees lead abatement activities.

  2. Supervisors must meet ONE of the following prerequisites:
    1. At least 1 year of experience as a lead abatement worker, OR
    2. At least 2 years experience in the environmental building trades.
    Your employer shall submit FORM B, Verification of Field Experience, to verify your field experience. If you are self-employed or part owner, please have an appropriate third party (ex: local building official) submit FORM B, Verification of Field Experience.

  3. Attend Lead Abatement Supervisor Initial training. If you are already certified and need to renew, attend a Lead Abatement Supervisor Refresher course.

  4. Register for The Lead & Environmental Hazard Association (LEHA) Exam: Contact Pearson Vue, (888) 204-6203, or www.pearsonvue.com to register. Candidates shall take the third party exam within 180 days of the successful completion of the Lead Supervisor course (C.G.S. §20-478-2(g)).

  5. Apply to the CT DPH (Connecticut Department of Public Health) for your Lead Abatement Supervisor certification by sending the application to the below address. There is a $50.00 application fee.

Steps to Become a Lead Abatement Worker:

  1. The Connecticut Lead Abatement Worker is for individuals who perform lead abatement activities. The Lead Abatement Worker must work under supervision of a Lead Abatement Supervisor, and must be employed by a registered Lead Abatement Contractor.

  2. There are no prerequisites for this certification.

  3. Attend Lead Abatement Worker Initial training. If you are already certified and need to renew, attend a Lead Abatement Worker Refresher course.

  4. Apply to the CT DPH (Connecticut Department of Public Health) for your Lead Abatement Worker certification by sending the application to the below address. There is a $50.00 application fee.
