This course provides a 3-year Construction Stormwater Certification valid in both Washington (CESCL) and Oregon (1200C).
Why Should You Take This Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead Training Course?
CESCL (Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead) certification is required in the state of Washington by the Washington State Department of Ecology and in the state of Oregon by the Department of Environmental Quality. It is required for personnel responsible for construction stormwater inspections and sampling at construction sites. This Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead Training class offers a dynamic interaction between the traditional classroom style and hands-on exercises. Upon completion of the course, attendees will know how to simply and confidently comply with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements of stormwater management.
Intended Audience: Contractors, agencies and municipalities, engineers, consultants and anyone else who desires to receive their CECSL certification.
Class Agenda:
- Day 1 + Day 2 (morning): Classroom examination of the most up-to-date techniques in the management of sediment and construction sites and discussing regulations, impacts, case studies, and more.
- Day 2 (afternoon): Field site practice in choosing and correctly installing mats, blankets, check dams, bonded fiber matrix, straw, and other erosion control techniques for various site locations. Demonstrations will also be conducted to show how the correctly placed BMP's respond to water flow.

Please Note: The Construction Stormwater General Permit requires that site inspections be conducted by a CESCL. This CESCL certification course is recognized as meeting the training and certification requirements of the General Permit, and BMP C160 Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead (CESCL) in Ecology's stormwater management manuals for eastern and western Washington.

I come from an extensive background in residential construction. Currently I work as a compliance coordinator. The CESCL class was filled with a voluminous amount of information on erosion control. I felt the instructor was extremely knowledgeable on the subject, and he was able to add humor to the daunting in class experience. However, after the class and field study, I feel as though I have a very good understanding of best practices and will be able to go out into the field on investigations and be a teacher of sorts to those who's understanding on how to set up erosion control may be limited. Finally, I found the class so fascinating that I am continuing my knowledge on the topic with my own research.
