The 2-Hour Mental Health Awareness (SST-308) course addresses an important but often overlooked component of construction site safety: the mental and emotional well-being of workers. Construction professionals may encounter demanding schedules, physically intensive work, jobsite pressures, fatigue, financial stress, traumatic events, and other circumstances that can negatively affect mental health and workplace performance.
This course helps participants better understand these challenges and recognize how mental health concerns can contribute to safety risks. Topics include identifying behavioral and emotional warning signs, understanding factors associated with suicide risk, recognizing the relationship between mental health and alcohol or substance misuse, and developing greater awareness of stress and burnout.
Participants will also explore appropriate ways to respond when a colleague may be experiencing emotional distress. The training emphasizes early recognition, supportive communication, reducing workplace stigma, and knowing when to encourage someone to seek professional assistance. Information about available mental health and community resources is also provided to help workers and supervisors identify appropriate sources of support.
By the end of the course, participants will have a stronger understanding of the role mental health plays in creating a safe and productive construction environment. The training is designed to help workers and supervisors recognize concerns earlier, respond appropriately, support their coworkers, and contribute to a workplace culture that prioritizes both physical and mental safety.
This course satisfies the NYC Department of Buildings 2-hour Mental Health Awareness SST-308 requirement for applicable SST Worker and Supervisor Card applicants and renewals.

| Certificates | For On-demand Courses: Students can download the Certificate of Completion immediately upon completing the course from the student profile page. For students who purchased the 10 Hour or the 32 Hour SST course package from PDH STAR, the SST card is issued free of charge, provided their OSHA 30 Construction card, ID and address can be verified, as per DOB requirements. For all other SST card requests, there is a separate SST card fee: for Site Safety SST card (Worker) the fee is $50 and for Supervisor SST cards the fee is $75. The SST card will be processed and mailed out within 5 business days after the student submits all required documents, notifies (via completed form available on the web site) PDH STAR that they have completed all training, and all external training has been verified. The SST card will not be issued, and no refund will be available, if any of the required training, ID or address cannot be verified, as per DOB requirements. |

All of our instructors are veterans of the industry with a minimum of 20 years of experience in the field and hold relevant qualifications and credentials. In addition to covering the curriculum during the course, they lead discussions and share their life experiences with the students, creating an engaging and stimulating environment.
