Receiving Your CDPH Lead Worker Certification

After you finish your course, you must apply to CDPH separately for certification - view the Application Forms and Instructions to apply for or renew your certificate. The course certificate that you receive from class is not the same as the CDPH certificate.

Note: If you apply for CDPH certification more than one year after taking your initial training, you will need to take a 7 hour Continuing Education for Workers course. If you apply more than three (3) years after taking your initial training, you will need to retake the full initial course over again.

Renewing Your Lead Worker Certification with CDPH

Your California Department of Public Health (CDPH) certificate must be renewed every year.

To renew your certificate, you need to have satisfied the Continuing Education requirement and pay the yearly renewal fee.

CDPH uses your birth date to determine your expiration date for new applications, by adding one year to the next birthday. Renewals are extended one more year from that date, regardless of when you apply. You will not lose time on your certification by applying early.

Continuing Education Requirement: You must complete at least 7 hours of CDPH-approved lead-related construction Continuing Education every two years. Additionally, any one Continuing Education class can only be used for a maximum of two renewals. You should complete your Continuing Education before applying to CDPH for renewal.

Renewal Deadlines: You must apply to CDPH for renewal at least 120 calendar days before your certificate expires. If you do not apply in time, your certificate may expire before CDPH can renew it. There are no extensions and CDPH can not expedite processing any renewals. Please take this into consideration when scheduling your Continuing Education.
