COURSE DESCRIPTION

Why Should You Take This CESSWI Exam Review Course?

Growing communities must realize that they play a crucial role in protecting Earth's most vital resource - water - and understand that rainfall can cause many problems for construction sites. Runoff water can flow through stockpiled construction material or across disturbed soil areas and pick up pollutants or sediment. The runoff typically ends up in streams or rivers that flow to the ocean. A comprehensive and practical Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan will save you money and still protect aquatic life while communities continue to grow and prosper.

The mission of the Certified Erosion, Sediment, and Storm Water Inspector (CESSWI) Program is to serve the public trust through the certification of individuals who are technically and ethically qualified to provide nationally consistent inspections of erosion, sediment, and storm water management practices. Compliance with an approved site plan/Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) including compliance with applicable (local, state, provincial and federal) laws and regulations is the key to achieving this goal.

Scope of Practice:  The purpose of the CESSWI Program is to certify individuals who are technically and ethically qualified to provide inspection services for compliance with Federal EPA NPDES (National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System), State and Local regulations. Permit holders will know that the CESSWI they are working with has met specific criteria and has been evaluated as a competent technical inspector. The CESSWI knowledge of Federal, State and Local requirements will allow CESSWIs to best inspect and advise permit holders of the necessary practices and proper techniques to apply planned erosion and sediment control and storm water BMPs (Best Management Practices). CESSWIs have the necessary knowledge to recognize if a permitted site is in compliance with Federal (NPDES), State and Local requirements.
