This 8-Hour Site Safety Manager for Professional and Experienced Managers course focuses on an advanced comprehensive approach to the management of construction site safety and discusses the NYC DOB Building Codes set forth in Chapter 33. The main objective that is exercised throughout this course is the importance of safety and protection of the public and workers onsite. Students will review revisions to the Building Codes, necessary actions to perform to ensure public safety, accident preventions, importance of maintaining logbooks, examines the roles of Site Safety Manager, Coordinator and a superintendent and much more.

 

Who Should Attend This 8-Hour Site Safety Manager for Professional and Experienced Managers course?

This course is a prerequisite for individuals who are applying for the Site Safety Manager (SSM), Site Safety Coordinator (SSC) and Construction Superintendent (CSI) licenses as well as individuals who are looking to attend this course for informational purposes.

 

Course Completion Process/Requirements:  Students are required to complete 100% of the course and actively participate in all learning activities including hands-on exercises. 

Students are not permitted to miss more than 2 hours of class time. Should this occur, it is the student’s responsibility to contact the instructor to schedule a make up session or arrange to attend another scheduled event. Student will not be eligible to receive certificate of completion without making up missed time.

 

Prerequisites:  There are no prerequisites needed to attend this course. Individuals who are taking this course with the intent to apply for a specific NYC license/certificate, must meet certain requirements in order to apply for that license. 

 

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

 

  • Navigate the New York City Department of Buildings website to stay current with Building Codes, New York City Rules, Bulletins and applications.
  • Identify rules and regulations that were promulgated after serious concrete construction accidents in New York City.
  • Demonstrate the reasons for New York City safety rules on concrete projects.
  • Illustrate New York City specific hazards for concrete construction and the control methods for those hazards.
  • Choose safe work practices at their construction sites based on prudent decision-making.
  • Prepare for the Site Safety Manager’s test. (if necessary)
  • Motivate other employees to make changes to improve the safety culture of New York City.
  • Evaluate the difference between the OSHA standards and Chapter 33 of Building Code of New York City.
