IR Thermography for Optical Gas Imaging is a 12-hour theory and practical course that teaches thermal imaging techniques for detecting and documenting thermal patterns associated with gas leaks and ventilation. This is a specialist certification course that focuses on a particular application. This course covers infrared theory, heat transfer concepts, detectable gases, equipment selection and operation, inspection methodologies, image analysis, report creation, and standard compliance. Students receive instruction on how to recognize and record thermal patterns for a variety of gases, such as hydrocarbons, sulfur hexafluoride, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, ammonia, and refrigerants, that result from gas leaks or venting. To help students get real-world experience, self-directed learning activities are offered; however, a camera is not required to pass the course.
