COURSE DESCRIPTION
If you operate equipment in Massachusetts that is capable of raising 10 or more feet, lifting 500 or more pounds, or holding over 1/4 yard of material, the state requires you to be licensed. The 4 hour 1C/1D MA Hoisting License Preparation and Continuing Education course prepares you for the MA Department of Public Safety 1C, 1D Hoisting Engineers License exams which allows workers to operate front end loaders, backhoes and excavators. If you are already licensed, the course will provide valuable continuing education credits to re-certify.

What kind of hoisting machinery can I operate under each license?

  • 1A:  All friction clutch machines and all derricks (including tower cranes, guy derricks, stiff legs, Chicago booms, gin poles); lattice boom machinery; and hoisting machinery listed under 1B, 1C, and 1D.
  • 1B: All hoisting machinery having telescoping boom and wire rope, and hoisting machinery listed under 1C and 1D.
  • 1C: hoisting machinery with hydraulic telescoping booms and any other hydraulic equipment designed for the purpose of hoisting, excluding those with wire rope hoist lines, and hoisting machinery listed under 1D.
  • 1D: General industrial warehouse fork lift equipment primarily used in indoor facilities.
