The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and Canada’s Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) developed the exam with the intention of encompassing the basic knowledge common to all pesticide applicators, regardless of their category or type of application. The U.S. EPA, PMRA, state and provincial governments are committed to the safe and effective use of pesticides. The development of the core exam is one more step toward insuring a knowledgeable and competent applicator industry.

This Certified Commercial Pesticide Applicator Training course is designed to prepare students with the knowledge and skills required to pass the required exam for licensure as a State of Michigan Commercial Pesticide Applicator. This 24-hour course, conducted over a 3-day period, includes in-class training as well as a study guide to help you effectively prepare for the required exam. The course equips students with the essential skills to ensure the safe application and the safe use of pesticides. Following the course, students receive a certificate of completion.

Who Should Take This Certified Commercial Pesticide Applicator TrainingCourse?

Persons who use or supervise the use of pesticides to manage pests in the following areas:

• Turfgrasses,
• Ornamental Plants in Exterior Areas,
• Public Roads,
• Electric Powerlines,
• Railway Rights of Way, and
• Similar Non-Crop Areas 

Topics to be Covered Include:

• Commercial Applicator Core
• Category 3A: Turfgrass Pest Management
• Category 3B: Ornamental Pest Management
• Category 6: Right of Way Pest Management

Please note: 

Individuals must pass a minimum of two exams:

1. The general standard exam (CORE); and
2. A minimum of one category and/or subcategory exam in the applicant’s area of pesticide application. 

After successfully passing the state exam CORE & subcategories, students will receive a State License allowing them to use restricted chemicals.

Individuals must be 18 years of age or older.
