COURSE DESCRIPTION

Why is understanding Bio-Hazards such an important issue? We all should know by now that blood and body fluids can transfer diseases. Since human blood and other human body fluids are considered potentially infectious, we need to be aware and to protect ourselves and our employees. This Bio-Hazard Training Course will teach students how to identify health threats and how to sanitize and/or decontaminate compromised areas.

Introduction:

I.Overview of existing threats.
            9:00 am – 10:00 am 60 minutes    
II. Emerging Infectious disease threats
             Break 10:00 am – 10:15 am 15 Minutes 
             10:15 am – 11:00 am 45 minutes
III.Assessment of threat levels
A.Discussion of procedural variances required
B.  Implementation of procedures for different threat levels
11:00 am – 12:30 pm  90 minutes 
IV. Blood & Body Fluid Clean-up Procedures
A. Development of written action plans and event logs
     B. Step-by-step clean-up procedures
     C. Required Personal Protection Equipment
           1. Gloves, Yellow Latex, Heavy Duty
           2.  Respirators
           3.  Goggles
           4.  Tyvek Suits
           5.  Tall Rubber Boots 
            6.  Headgear   
    
    D. Tools - 
    1.   Pump-up sprayers
     2.  Small Maids Buckets
     3.  Disposable Wipers or sturdy paper towels
     4.  Green Scrubbing Pads 
  5.  Mops, Swiffers, Steam mops, etc (depending on floor surfaces)

    E.  Disinfectants - 
       1.  Premium Hospital Grade Disinfectant
                 2.  Regular Hospital Grade Disinfectant 

   F.  Equipment - 
       1. Wet Vacs?
       2. Extractors?

       4.  Kaivac Units?
