Basic Statistics for Environmental Professionals

Basic Statistics for Environmental Professionals Courses

In this Basic Statistics for Environmental Professionals course we will review the principles of statistics and survey a variety of analysis methods commonly used in environmental fields. Readers and consumers of statistics want to understand what analyses were done, why they were chosen, and what they mean.

Statistical practitioners will receive a broad methodological refresher without getting bogged down in detailed mathematics or computing. We will also discuss the intent, applicability and meaning of various analyses and note potential pitfalls in statistical analysis and interpretation. Specific topics include: basic statistical principles, hypothesis testing, confidence intervals, linear regression, logistic regression, contingency table analysis, multivariate methods, and statistical graphics, as time permits.
