This online 6-Hour Estimating and Bidding for Success course introduces students to construction estimating. Students will learn about different types of estimates, construction delivery and the tools needed for preparing a bid. By the end of the course, students should be able to apply their new skills to itemizing building costs, visualizing projects and creating accurate estimations.

Geared toward self-paced learning, this course is conveniently offered online. Learning objectives are provided during all portions of this course to facilitate student understanding and progress. This interactive course includes progress checks throughout modules to help students review and measure their understanding of the material. The assessment at the end of each chapter reflects learning objectives.

Why Should You Take This course?

The Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors (LSLBC) requires residential contractors to complete six (6) hours per year by your original licensing date to renew your Louisiana Contractor License.  This increased in January, 2012 from four hours to six hours each year.

 

What happens if I don't renew my license by my renewal date?

A delinquent penalty of $50 for late renewal of Residential contractor licenses may be assessed 15 days following the expiration date. Failure to renew your license within six months after your renewal date will result in forfeiture of your renewal rights and you will have to start all over. If you have specific questions about your renewal period, please contact the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors (LSLBC) at:  (225) 765-2301

How Does This Online Anytime Course Work?

Our courses do not allow you to fail the quiz. Once you achieve 70% on the quiz, you will move on to the next chapter.It's that easy!

Chapter 1 - Bidding and Estimating
*Learning Objectives: 1) Recognize the features and advantages of at least five types of estimates. 2) Outline a properly constructed estimate that will encompass all the necessary components required for a successful and profitable project. 3) Identify the responsibilities of the bid team, and what bid day duties include. 4) Gain an understanding of the use of spreadsheets and/or software in structuring a bid program.

Chapter 2 -Plan Reading
*Learning Objectives: 1) Identify the various pages/drawings of a blueprint and recognize the symbols used. 2) Gain confidence in the ability to understand and accurately identify components of an architectural rendering. 3) Correctly formulate mathematical computations to measure materials required for a construction project. 4) Understand the need to be specific in all areas of plan reading.

Chapter 3 - Guidelines for Estimating
*Learning Objectives: 1) Identify basic measurement standards and resources typically used in construction estimating. 2) Gain confidence in the ability to understand and accurately identify components of an architectural rendering. 3) Develop the skill required to apply production rates for varioius trades to reach an accurate estimate. 4) Understand the importance of structuring a bid that includes enough gross or clear profit to not only survive, but to prosper.
