This is a blended learning course where you will attend the first 3 days virtually and the last 2 days on-site at 2487 E. Orangethorpe Ave., Fullerton, CA 92831.
Or this course can be conducted fully online if the following are met:
1. Access to a Phase Contrast Microscope with the proper setup for asbestos fiber analysis as specified in the Method NIOSH 7400 or similar, and
2. Someone that is fully trained and a qualified person must be onsite with you. They will be required to follow up with additional oversight after the slides are analyzed by the student and monitored online by Ecologics personnel.
Why Should You Take This NIOSH 582 - Sampling and Evaluating Airborne Asbestos Fibers course?
Federal and state regulations require specific training for personnel involved in asbestos management. This NIOSH 582 Equivalent course covers the OSHA and AHERA training and licensing requirements for Asbestos Air Monitors. Students will learn NIOSH-approved methods of collecting and evaluating airborne asbestos samples in occupational settings.
Please Note: This course includes statistics and sampling-related mathematics, calibration of air sampling equipment, and set-up and use of the phase contrast microscope. It is helpful if students have a good background in basic algebra and the ability to use a calculator with square and square-root functions. Hands-on exercises complement the practical instruction on asbestos air sample analysis. Upon successful completion of the course, participants receive a certificate that may be used for licensing purposes.
Who Should Attend This Course?
Microscopists, air sampling technicians, and industrial hygienists whose jobs include sampling and analyzing for asbestos fibers, fiberglass and man-made mineral fibers will benefit most from this course. This course is OSHA approved for asbestos abatement training. This course requires notification to state regulatory authorities and may be used for licensing as an asbestos abatement professional.

The class was good, after working as an asbestos inspector for a while, and im constantly reading lab reports, and writing reports for clients so they understand the labs. So the beginning of the class felt like a refresher, however I still found out a good bit that I hadn't known about, which I enjoy. After those first two days, and started into the deep end of the lab work, I was a stranger in a strange land. The instructor was fantastic though, he kept going over the same thing with different examples until it set in, making the class very enjoyable. I thought that it being online wouldn't translate for me, but it did, I passed.

The instructor was very knowledgeable about the NIOSH 582 Method and Asbestos Fibers. He was great at giving examples and making sure that we understood the material. I also really enjoyed when he used a camera with his microscope so we could see what he sees. I thought the use of technology was brilliant and the coarse was overall just fun and informative. I would definitely recommend this coarse to my other collogues and anybody else who wants to learn the NIOSH 582 Method. Michael J.

I learned some interesting things, and this was a solid introductory course, but I was greatly disappointed that there was no sequence demonstrating what NOT to count in realistic/real-world samples. Jenny B.

Class was informative, instructor very knowledgable. I'm a horrible test taker, so it was extremely difficult for me. I also wish we would have had access to the instructor whiteboard notes. The class was a little unorganized and most of it felt like a guessing game as to when we received the class link, slides, and exam time. Excellent class with a great instructor. I have been doing fibre counting for a long time but only trained in the NIOSH 7400 methodology. Taking this course was a good refresher and gives me much more information related to the background of the methods, calculations, statistics, and microscope calibration.
