Why Should You Take This Asbestos Project Monitor Refresher Course?

Do not let your Asbestos Project Monitor license expire! This Asbestos Project Monitor refresher training recertifies individuals to function as the on-site representative of the facility owner or supervisor during an asbestos abatement project. Project Monitors interpret project specifications or abatement plans and monitor contractor or employee compliance with applicable rules, regulations, or specifications.

During this course, students will receive a regulatory review and update on new asbestos legislation pertinent to asbestos abatement work. Beneficial features of this course include real-world examples from experienced instructors, as well as an overview of OSHA, AHERA, NESHAP; acceptable work practices; workplace safety; and air monitoring techniques. You will have the opportunity to interact with your peers and course instructors for maximized learning.

A Project Monitor must have a copy of their certificate with them at all times while working on the project. Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive a certificate of re-accreditation as an Asbestos Project Monitor.

The Following Topics Will Be Reviewed:

  • Background Information on Asbestos
  • Health Effects of Asbestos Exposure
  • Roles and Responsibilities of the Project Monitor
  • Federal and State Regulations
  • Respiratory Protection Program
  • Medical Monitoring
  • Insurance and Liability Considerations
  • Supervisory Techniques
  • Identification and Control Options
  • State-of-the-Art Work Practices
  • Personal Hygiene of the Worker
  • Additional Safety Hazards
  • Air Monitoring
  • Pre and Post Work Activities and Safety Considerations
  • Contract Specifications
  • Record-Keeping

Please Note: Your state has detailed education, experience and application processing requirements to qualify for licensing in the Asbestos field. Most states administer their own asbestos programs, and each state's Department of Environmental Protection/Health is generally the best place to start with questions about requirements and training. Students are responsible to verify these requirements prior to registering for a course.

IMPORTANT: You are required to bring your most current training certificate with you to the refresher course!

It was easy to follow the discussion in the class while referring to the text. The instructor (Ed) is well-informed and brings his personal field experience into the classroom. He raised numerous thought-provoking questions about the many "gray" areas of the practice and was interested in the students' opinions and experiences. At the same time, the course structure ... and the instructor ... kept the class focused on the topics that are most important to maintaining the knowledge base necessary for working in the profession. The day went by smoothly and I left confident that I had maintained my ability to exercise good judgement in my daily work.

Tom was extremely well informed, a talented and personable communicator, and had one of the best senses of humor I've run across in quite a while. He made the day fly by ... well I guess not fly, exactly, but it was painless and educational. He has many interesting insights that I found both interesting and thought-provoking, and if I come back next year ... it is a bit of a hike for me ... it will largely be his doing..
