This Asbestos Contractor/Supervisor Initial training course is for any individual who performs supervision of persons permitted to enter the restricted and regulated asbestos abatement work area. The supervisor is also responsible for performing the duties of the OSHA competent person for the asbestos project, consistent with current EPA and OSHA regulations.
Please Note: Your state has detailed education, experience and application processing requirements to qualify for licensing in the Asbestos field. Most states administer their own asbestos programs, and each state's Department of Environmental Protection/Health is generally the best place to start with questions about requirements and training. Please verify these requirements and reciprocity prior to registering for a course.
An Asbestos Contractor/Supervisor must have completed this training, and have a valid certificate with them at all times while working on qualifying projects. This workshop prepares you to immediately apply your knowledge to the field, with extensive hands-on training and real-world examples from experienced instructors. It combines lectures, discussions, and hands-on demonstrations. Safe work practices, liability, and glove bag procedures are examined in detail.
Training for asbestos abatement professionals is required under the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act of 1986 (AHERA), which is the authority under which EPA issued the EPA Asbestos Model Accreditation Plan. This course has been granted full approval by the EPA and various States to meet AHERA and ASHARA accreditation requirements for asbestos work in K-12 schools, as well as in public and commercial buildings.
Topics To Be Covered Include:
- Asbestos basics such as where the harmful mineral can be found today, its physical characteristics, and its hazards on human health and the environment.
- Respiratory and other PPE selection and classifications.
- Legal and insurance considerations and basic requirements.
- Contracts and specifications.
- Asbestos abatement pre-work, containment, and decontamination best practices.
- Sampling and analytical methods pertaining to asbestos abatement.
- Proper waste packaging and disposal methods.
- Additional hazards encountered during abatement activities.
- Glovebag removal techniques.
- Recordkeeping, leadership, and other supervisory practices.

| Individual Prerequisites | No prerequisites to attend the trianing class. However to become an Asbestos Contractor in FL the following is required: 5-day contractor/supervisor course; 3-day respiratory protection course; Completion of at least 10 asbestos projects within the last 5 years; Pass the FL State Asbestos Contractors exam. |

| Individual App Requirements | If you wish to be a licensed Asbestos Contractor in FL you must apply with the state licensing division and pay an initial application & exam fee of $340. | Individual Exam And Fees | If applying to become an Asbestos Contractor in FL, you must pass the FL State Asbesots Contractor's exam. The Asbestos Examination Application Fees for Initial Applications is $340 for Contractors. |
| Company Application Requirements | If you wish to engage in asbestos consulting or contracting as a partnership, corporation, business trust or other legal entity or if you wish to engage in asbestos consulting or contracting as an individual you must obtain a FL Asbestos Business License. The fee is $255 every two years. |
| Refresher Training | Completion of a one day 8-hour course for each calendar year prior to the license renewal date. |
| Reciprocity | Florida does not currently have reciprocal agreements or criteria for endorsement of applicants from other states. You must meet the Florida requirements for licensure and receive a passing score on the Florida examination. |

This was a very good course. Informative with all of the EPA and OSHA regs discussed. An in depth look at state of the art procedures and recommendations. The instructors were very informative and able to answer every question. It was very obvious they had many years of experience in the field and as class instructors. The hands on part of the class was also a fun experience with the other students. The facilities were very neat, clean and orderly. They also provided coffee and snacks for everyone.
