The Building Performance Institute (BPI) was founded in 1993 and is the most widely recognized association that certifies energy auditors on a national scale. Focusing on the house as a system approach, BPI emphasizes the interdependence of building systems as they relate to energy consumption. BPI Building Analyst certification is the nation's most widely recognized energy auditor certification. Endorsed by the DOE, certification is required for participation in many state and national contractor incentive programs.
NO! Becoming a certified BPI Building Analyst (aka Energy Auditor) requires no prior construction experience. Having building and/or construction experience is an absolute plus, but anyone is welcome to attend a Zack Academy Building Analyst 1 training and certification course. Some of the course concepts are tough, but you're up for the challenge, right?
To become certified as a BPI Building Analyst 1, individuals must pass the BPI written and field exams. Zack Academy also provides optional training courses which are highly recommended for your success on the exams. The online classroom training portions go into deep detail on the concepts every energy auditor is expected to know on the job, and the field training will show you exactly how to use the required tools in the field. All training materials and certification exams are approved directly by the Building Performance Institute or BPI.

Class starts promptly on each day at 8am and concludes at 5pm. Below is the specific breakdown for our BPI Building Analyst 1 certification course.
Our Building Analyst 1 training will introduce you to the tools you can expect to use in the field on a daily basis. These include a gas leak detector, combustion analyzer, pressure test kits, and our favorite, the blower door. No need to bring your own equipment to class - your instructor will have it all ready to play with when you start your field training!
BPI Certification is a title given to individuals while BPI Accreditation is for companies. An individual is considered BPI Certified after successfully attaining at least one BPI credential (i.e. Building Analyst 1, Envelope, Multi-family, etc.). In order for a business to become a BPI Accredited Home Performance Contractor, they must complete an application process and employ at least one person that is a BPI Building Analyst and also have a specialty BPI certification. There are two exams required to become a certified BPI Building Analyst: a written exam and a field exam. You need to get at least a 70% on the 100-question Written Exam and you must demonstrate that you understand how to use the primary tools required of a Building Analyst in the Field Exam. Our training helps to prepare you to pass the exams on the first try.
