Why Should You Take This Reasonable Suspicion for Drugs and Alcohol Training Course?

Department of Transportation (DOT) Regulations Part 382.603 requires that all persons designated to supervise operators of commercial motor vehicles who hold CDLs receive at least 2 hours of training on alcohol misuse and controlled substance use. This Reasonable Suspicion for Drugs and Alcohol training course fulfills the DOT requirement. Supervisors should use this training to determine whether reasonable suspicion exists to require a driver to submit for testing. 

 

Intended Audience:  Any supervisor who works for a company who utilizes Commercial Drivers and who has a drug testing policy

 

This course provides support and training for supervisors that need to make a reasonable suspicion determination. The course topics cover:

  • Effects of Drugs and Alcohol on the Job
  • The Supervisors Role in a DOT Testing Program
  • Indicators, Signals and Symptoms and Indicators to Look For
  • Prohibited Behavior, Including How to Handle Prescription Drug Use
  • How to Recognize and Document Performance Using the Behavior Observation Checklist

  • Employee refusal to be tested
  • Supervisor receiving hearsay information
  • Employee discovery of a suspicious substance
  • Employees who leave the jobsite
