The Lead Risk Assessor training course provides information for those individuals who wish to perform lead-based paint Risk Assessment or Lead Hazard Screening services. This class will prepare students to perform on-site inspection, take samples, determine the severity of lead hazards, and develop options for eliminating those hazards.

A Risk Assessor can perform all of the duties that an Inspector can (including work that falls under the Lead RRP Rule and HUD's Lead-Safe Housing rule). In addition, a Risk Assessor is responsible for identifying all lead-based paint hazards and making recommendations for their treatment, including maintenance and monitoring schedules.

The Lead Inspector class is a pre-requisite for Lead Risk Assessor, in addition to education and experience requirements - please confirm eligibility for this course prior to registering.

Course Content:

  • Roles and Responsibilities of Risk Assessor
  • Visual inspections
  • Identifying Potential Sources of Lead-Based Paint Hazards
  • Lead Hazard Screen Protocol
  • Preparation of Final Risk Assessment Report
  • Development of Hazard Control Options

Requirements for Successful Course Completion:

  • Ability to Read, Understand and Speak English Language
  • Attend entire course in consecutive days
  • Pass a written, multiple choice exam

This course is provided by an accredited trainer that is approved by the necessary EPA and/or Authorized-State lead program, as required based on the course location.

It is the participant's responsibility to verify that the course they attend will be accepted in any other state(s) where you will be performing work, and to process any required paperwork that may be necessary.

I feel confident I can both pass the state exam but go out and be successful. Points of improvement: Some of the training material was worked in such a way that was very confusing. Key words were added or removed that didn't line up with the instructors answer key.
