Maintain your accreditation as a lead worker by attending this one-day accredited refresher course. Proof of prior completion of an approved lead worker training or current state license must be provided.

Abatement is any measure or set of measures designed to permanently eliminate lead-based paint hazards. If abatement work is NOT conducted by a Certified Lead Abatement Worker, you will be in violation and subject to heavy fines by the EPA or local EPA-Authorized lead program.

Contractors who perform lead-based paint projects must train and re-certify in lead-safe work practices before performing lead abatement work. Contractors performing abatement work must have at least one certified Lead Abatement Supervisor overseeing the work, with the assistance of certified Lead Abatement Workers if required.

This Lead Worker/Handler Refresher Training Will Review:

  • Where and What Is Lead?
  • Health Effects of Lead Exposure
  • Regulations and Laws of Lead Abatement
  • Identifying & Evaluating Lead Paint Hazards
  • Controlling Lead Hazards
  • Set-Up of Containment
  • Abatement Methods
  • Cleanup, Disposal & Clearance
  • Soil Abatement and Exterior Dust Cleanup

Participants should verify that the course you register for will be accepted in the state(s) where you wish to renew, and be informed of any local registration, examination, or paperwork requirements.

Re-certification Requirements to work in EPA-Controlled States:

(Alaska, Arizona, Florida, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, New York, South Carolina, South Dakota, and Wyoming; American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Marianas and Tribal Lands.)

  • You must be recertified by EPA before your current certification expires. EPA therefore recommends that you submit your application online no later than 90 days before your current certification expires.
  • You must take refresher training before you apply for recertification to EPA. You should begin looking for available courses well before your current certification expires, because refresher courses may not be available in your area on a frequent basis. However, EPA recommends that you take your refresher training no earlier than 18 months before your current certification expires. You will not lose time from your current certification if you take refresher training early. When you apply for recertification, EPA will issue you a certificate that begins on your current expiration date and expires three years from that date.

Re-certification for all other states:  Contact your states' EPA-authorized lead-based paint program for renewal deadlines and further information.
