Why Should You Take This 14-Hour FL Contractor License Renewal Package 4 - Contracts, Liability and Risk Management Online Anytime Course Package?

For Registered Contractors and Certified Contractors the renewal deadline is August 31st. All Registered Contractors and Certified Contractors are required to complete fourteen (14) hours of continuing education each renewal cycle. 

Of the fourteen hours, one hour is required in each of the following topics:

  • Specialized or Advanced Module that is approved by the Florida Building Commission,
  • Workplace Safety,
  • Business Practices,
  • Worker’s Compensation,
  • Laws and Rules Regulating the Construction Industry,
  • Wind Mitigation Methodologies (if license is held in the following category:  General, Building, Residential, Roofing, Specialty Structure, or Glass & Glazing.)

 

Please Note:  The remaining seven hours may include any of the above topics or general topics to the industry. Students will have up to six months of access to course content.

 

What Is Included in This Package?

This 14-Hour FL Contractor License Renewal Package 4 - Contracts, Liability and Risk Management Online Anytime course package fulfills all requirements for a two year renewal cycle for Registered Contractors and Certified Contractors. Students will have up to 6 months of access to course content. The courses offered within this package are:

I. Florida Contracts, Liabilities, and Risk Management

This seven hour video course explains the principles of contract law and the important elements of a home building and remodeling contract. The difference between various contracts used in the residential construction industry is also described. Requirements and types of insurance are also covered in this course, as well as the details of Workers Compensation.

II. Florida Required Competency 

This 6 hour course fulfills the continuing education requirements outlined by 61G4-18.001 for Workplace Safety, Business Practices (Lien Law), Workers’ Compensation, Construction Laws and Rules and Wind Mitigation methodologies. Individual chapter descriptions below outline subjects, topics and subtopics covered.

Upon completion, participants will be knowledgeable in:

  • Workplace Safety
  • Florida Lien Law
  • Workers" Compensation
  • Florida Construction Statutes and Rules
  • Wind Mitigation

 

III. 2017 Thermal and Moisture Protection: Keeping the Weather Out

Protecting buildings from the weather and moisture related problems is important for all building professionals. This course, based on the 2017 Florida Building codes, pertains to moisture and weather related problems, and will identify practical solutions based on those requirements. 

After completing this course participants will be able to:

  • Summarize the key elements (either natural or mechanical) of a properly ventilated structure.
  • List and describe at least three specific installation techniques and/or materials that contribute to a properly constructed roof system.
  • Outline at least one design strategy based on “best practices” for the construction of buildings in areas with  high humidity.
  • Identify and implement proven methods that will effectively divert moisture from the foundation of a structure.
