Why Should You Take This Asbestos Project Designer Course
This Asbestos Project Designer Initial training accredits individuals to plan the scope, timing, phasing, and remediation methods for an asbestos project. Accreditation as a Project Designer allows one to apply knowledge of building construction in the design and development of abatement projects, abatement specifications, bidding documents, architectural drawings, and schematic representations of material locations.
Training for asbestos abatement professionals is required under the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act of 1986 (AHERA), which is the authority under which EPA issued the EPA Asbestos Model Accreditation Plan. This course has been granted full approval by the EPA and various States to meet AHERA and ASHARA accreditation requirements for asbestos work in K-12 schools, as well as in public and commercial buildings.
A Project Designer must possess a valid Project Designer certificate and have a copy of their certificate with them at all times while working on the project. This workshop prepares you to immediately apply your knowledge to the field, with extensive hands-on training and real-world examples from experienced instructors. It combines lectures, discussions, and hands-on demonstrations.

| Refresher Training | Renewal applications must be received in the Asbestos Program office 30 days prior to the expiration date of the current accreditation card or it will be treated as an initial application, which requires the initial fee. All renewal applicants must successfully complete a refresher course in the same discipline as their initial course. |
| Reciprocity | Michigan accepts training course certificates from all U.S. EPA approved training providers. All training courses conducted in Michigan must be Michigan approved. Initial Inspectors, Management Planners, and Project Designers must submit a resume complete with the following information: (1) name of employer; (2) type of asbestos-related work performed; (3) percentage of total job that was asbestos-related; (4) period of employment (beginning and ending dates of employment). Contact the department regarding contractor licensure requirements and training provider approval. |
