Why Should You Take This Asbestos Inspector training course?

This Asbestos Inspector training course accredits individuals to assess the condition of asbestos material and report the results. Any person who performs the tasks involved in the asbestos survey, identification and assessment of the condition of asbestos and asbestos material, or who is involved in the collection of bulk samples of asbestos material for laboratory analysis, needs this training.

Training for asbestos abatement professionals is required under the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act of 1986 (AHERA), which is the authority under which EPA issued the EPA Asbestos Model Accreditation Plan. This course has been granted full approval by the EPA and various States to meet AHERA and ASHARA accreditation requirements for asbestos work in K-12 schools, as well as in public and commercial buildings.

OSHA requires that all surfacing material - (i.e. sprayed-on or trowled-on materials) and all thermal systems insulation must be presumed to be asbestos containing materials (PACM) in buildings constructed before 1981. OSHA also requires that in these same buildings, all vinyl, resilient, and asphaltic flooring, and the associated mastics and backings must be assumed to be asbestos containing. Only laboratory analysis of samples obtained by a trained and certified asbestos building inspector can rebut OSHAs position on PACM or flooring in buildings constructed before 1981. Building owners, and those involved with construction activities, must identify all asbestos containing materials in the areas of construction via due diligence.

An Asbestos Inspector must possess a valid Inspector certificate and have a copy of their certificate with them at all times while working on the project. This workshop prepares you to immediately apply your knowledge to the field, with extensive hands-on training and real-world examples from experienced instructors. It combines lectures, discussions, and hands-on demonstrations.

Topics To Be Covered Include:

  • Types and Uses of Asbestos
  • Potential Health Effects of Asbestos Exposure
  • Federal and State Regulatory Framework
  • Function, Qualifications, and Role of Inspectors
  • Building Systems
  • Public/Employee/Building Occupant Relations
  • Pre-Inspection Planning
  • Physical Assessment of Friable and Non-Friable ACM
  • Respiratory Protection and Personal Protective Equipment
  • Legal Liabilities
  • Bulk Sampling Documentation and Recordkeeping
  • Field Experiences and Hands-On Skill Sets

Please Note: Your state has detailed education, experience and application processing requirements to qualify for licensing in the Asbestos field. Most states administer their own asbestos programs, and each state's Department of Environmental Protection/Health is generally the best place to start with questions about requirements and training. Students are responsible to verify these requirements prior to registering for a course.

I wish there would have been more hands-on learning. Informative video, and the CEO of Seagull, who is the video instructor, is a great facilitator of information. However, since there is almost no hands-on learning in the course I attended, it really could have been conducted online. Was hoping for a more immersive in-person experience. Yes, the videos that they used for the training were old but they still contained a great deal of useful information. It kind of felt like watching a long documentary which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I do wish they would of discussed standard sampling practices a bit more. The instructors were very helpful and would answer any questions that you have and did seem to care. I will definitely be back in a year for my refresher course.

The presentation of the information like many training courses, was delivered with videos. Unlike most though, the videos were of classroom instruction with the lecturer presenting the information to a group of participates. For me this made the videos engaging. Instead of a individual talking to the camera and presenting slides, you get the feel of a classroom environment which to me was a change from just clicking to the next video or slide and hearing a standard voice over. Two of the three days I was afforded a one on one video chat with the instructor, who answered all of my questions thoroughly. During the session of videos, the in class facilitator often stopped by to pause the video and ask if I had any questions. The hands on practical application was delivered in a very relaxed one on one environment. I will definitely consider this company as a first choice if I need any additional training and recommend Seagull to all my peers who ask about information pertaining to required environmental training.
